California Production Support (Day Shift) Job Description

Shift hours: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM Pacific Time (Mon-Fri)

Position Summary

The Production Support (Day Shift) position monitors all corporate processes and systems during the time/days specified. Working in our Orange County, California office, the position monitors emails, enterprise schedulers, applications, servers, infrastructure, and monitoring systems to ensure correct operation and processing. If issues arise, the incumbent is responsible to triage, troubleshoot, resolve, and/or escalate as needed. This may require network/systems troubleshooting, communicating with vendors/providers/staff (via phone/email), and related skills. The root cause of issues need to be identified quickly, and an appropriate plan of action developed and executed. This position is additionally the business-facing role for Production Support and as such needs to be sensitive to business concerns and communicate effectively with non-technical business users about technical matters. Must be able to manage multiple tasks at the same time in a demanding, time-sensitive environment, prioritizing and following up as needed. Communications skills, understanding of change management, identification and mitigation of risks, and follow-through are all critical to success in this role. Understanding of Windows Servers, file transfer protocols, file systems, and technical processes will be used on a daily basis. You will work with minimal supervision and be expected to hand off all outstanding issues at the end of your shift, and keep updated status of issues in our ticketing system as you work on them. This position also shares rotating on-call duties for after-hours gaps between shifts, on holidays, etc.

Requirements:

  • Communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences by phone, email, and in-person.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and adjust workflow accordingly, including triaging incidents during shift.
  • Windows platform experience, including Server 2012 R2 and later (services, file system and user account principles, troubleshooting).
  • Monitor for alerts, failures or problems via email alerts and application consoles.
  • Determine impact of changes before making them.
  • Phone support skills for interactions with internal and external customers when needed.
  • Basic management and ownership of small projects.
  • Understand and utilize change control principles.
  • Review systems logs of all types (Windows event logs, Java exception stack traces, proprietary application logs, etc.) for root cause determination.
  • Familiar with principles of job scheduler and task automation, ideally with some enterprise-grade job scheduler. Minimum would be extensive experience with Cron or Windows Task Scheduler.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues (Jr level) – Understand how to identify if it is a network, server, filesystem, access-level, DNS error and what to do next.
  • Understanding of SFTP functionality.
  • Scripting or programming skills in at least one of the following at beginning level or beyond: PowerShell, bash, Java (not Javascript), Groovy, Scala, Python, Perl
  • Documentation – Create documentation and diagrams of systems and processes.
  • Diagnose and implement corrective measures.
  • Enhance availability and performance of systems/ processes.
  • Experience in FinTech or Financial Services industry.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian suite, especially JIRA and Confluence.
  • Familiar with JAMS Scheduler for Windows.
  • Experience acting as a liaison between IT and the business.

Preferences:

  • Understanding of file parsing and processing.
  • Understanding of MS SQL connectivity and TSQL.
  • Operational flow understanding –to understand production call flows to support incident management.
  • Familiar with Windows-based SFTP products, ideally Cerberus FTP Server.
  • Familiar with Splunk Enterprise monitoring application including web GUI and Universal Forwarder configuration.
  • Understanding of *nix LPD printing processes.
